Korean in IPA

Why guess Korean pronunciation?

Korean has a three-way stop contrast (plain, tense, aspirated) that English collapses into two, and consonants change at the end of a syllable and across word boundaries. Romanisation cannot capture these, but IPA can.

Stops come in three series — plain, tense, and aspirated — where English has only two.
Syllable-final consonants are unreleased and neutralise to a small set of sounds.
Sounds assimilate across syllable and word boundaries, so written and spoken forms diverge.
Korean has no native f or v sound.
