How to use the IPA keyboard

1

Click the symbols you need

Browse the pulmonic consonants, vowels, and diacritics. Each button inserts that exact IPA glyph into the box at your cursor.

2

Edit and refine

Type letters directly, add a stress mark before a syllable, or a length mark after a vowel. Use Backspace to fix mistakes and Clear to start over.

3

Copy it anywhere

Hit Copy and paste the transcription into a document, an Anki card, a chat, an email, or a slide. The symbols are Unicode, so they travel cleanly.

Typing symbols vs transcribing a word

This keyboard is for entering IPA by hand — perfect when you already know the phonemes and just need a fast way to type the glyphs, like correcting a single transcription, annotating a worksheet, or jotting a stress pattern.

If you want the IPA for a whole word or phrase produced for you, you do not need to type anything. Install the IPAtics desktop app to get IPA on any selected text in any app with one keystroke — complete with native audio across 14 language varieties.
